10 Tips for being more Truthful
1. Make a commitment to tell the truth
2. Tell someone about your commitment.
I would have to make a commitment to myself to tell the truth at all times but I would fail because I'm even dishonest to myself how can I be truthful with others. I would tell my closest friends about my commitment but they know I would cave too.
3. Think before you give a dishonest answer, explanation, sarcasm, or reason.
I agree that people should really think about what they say before they give an answer. Especially sarcasm, because for example I could never tell when someone is being serious or if they're just being stupid and sarcastic.
4. Be careful of when and how you use exaggeration, sarcasm, or irony.
This
is important because exaggeration, sarcasm, or irony can be taken the
wrong way or offensively, which is why it is better to be truthful than
to try and be funny sometimes. For example the other day at the fair we
were at this restaurant and my friend Johnny's brother went to go say hi
to my friend Sarai and she was like "I don't know you" in a very angry
tone. He looked hurt and honestly I believed she was being serious but
then she laughed and said she was just kidding so I never know when
she's joking or not.
5. Be careful not to twist the truth or leave out part of it.
Well as much as I think this should completely be taken into consideration sometimes leaving out the truth is better for me. For example I don't like the feeling of having to tell a friend something that might hurt her I would rather her find out on her own or by someone else besides me. Or me on the other hand, sometimes I prefer lies than to hear the truth because it could leave me heartbroken.
7. Watch out for silent lies
I'm not sure I know what silent lies are. I think it's also kind of like how someone may be telling you something and they're leaving out the silent lies I feel like that's what it may be.
8. When you catch yourself lying, throw your mouth into reverse.
I wouldn't do a very good job at this tip because If i catch myself lying it's most likely I can't correct myself. For example if someone hurts my feelings and someone else asks if I'm okay I would lie and say I'm fine and that I don't care but in reality I'm just trying to hide my emotions because I don't want anyone to know that I care what people think or say about me and that deep down I feel hurt and I'm trying my hardest not to let the tears fall. That's why it is better for me to pretend like it doesn't bother me if someone puts me down which I've had to do pretty much my whole life so I've gotten used to it and much better at hiding it.
Treat yourself when you tell the truth
I'm always treating myself no matter what even when I am just telling the truth. I think rewarding yourself afterward is important so that in encourages you to tell the truth more often.
Reflection
My final thoughts on the ten tips for being more truthful is that these are all very useful tips to get better at telling the truth. They can benefit us all in many different ways to just mainly improve our honesty skills. A tip that I will be applying now is to think before I can give an honest answer and it is making a difference in my life because now I don't have to worry about whether what I said was right or wrong because I actually thought about it. I will totally incorporate the other tips into my life planning goals and plans with my personal life.
Way to Be
9 Ways to be Happy and make something of your Life
Gordon B. Hickley
1. Be Grateful
“Let us be grateful to the people who make us
happy, they are the charming gardeners who
make our souls blossom."
Being grateful is important because when you have someone or something to make you smile and give you joy, you need to appreciate the people that make you happy when you can't make yourself happy. For example I am so grateful for all the people who I look up to such as my favorite singers and youtubers because they motivate me to live life to the fullest and they bring me right back up when I'm feeling down or I'm at my worst moments.
2. Be Smart
I definitely think being smart can make you happy because if you are smart and educated you feel secure and proud to be intelligent because you can answer other people's questions and you will never be lacking knowledge unlike others.
3. Be involved in Good Works
It is important to be involved in good works because you don't want to waste your time doing things that are not important and use your time on something that is actually going to help you and be useful of your time
4. Be Clean
I think being clean is not only about hygiene but also yourself as a person being clean, like being organized, and clear of guilt. For example you are clean if you have done nothing that you regret and you are clean if you don't feel like anything is missing in your life. Overall, being clean means you are more likely to be happy with yourself and your surroundings too.
5. Be True
Being true is very important in a person because if you can't be true to yourself and what you believe in then you are living a lie.
6. Be Positive
Being positive is such an important part of life because what's the point of living if you can't be happy? Life is way too short to think negatively. Instead of being sad and bored all the time, you should do things you like and enjoy. Or try something new that you're interested in. You never really know where you might find happiness and positiveness. Don't hang out with negative people because that may be what's bringing you down. Listen to happy music. Laugh about the funny things. Dance and have fun. These will help you keep a positive attitude.
7. Be Humble
Being humble is a great quality because when you are too arrogant and self-absorbed, most people actually look down on you instead of looking up at you. I have always been insecure whether it is about my looks, intelligence, or victories. If I got a good result on a test and someone compliments me on it I would say thank you but I hardly studied. That is usually the truth but I'm lowering my own standards because the test could have been corrected wrong. I wouldn't want to seem like I'm bragging either because chances are I did not study and I just got lucky at guessing. Or if you achieved something important you should be grateful not go around telling people how great you are. Stay humble. .
8. Be Still
I would say being still means being in a conscious state of mind where nothing distracts you from your own thoughts. What if you are in a dangerous situation like a robbery or shooting or something? The best thing to do would be stay still, calm, and relaxed and figure out exactly what you're going to plan to do.
9. Be Prayerful
Reflection: I think that these 9 ways to be happy and make something of my life were very helpful and useful to write about. My deepest thoughts and feelings about these have grown since I started writing about the nine ways like I actually think about it at night and how I'm going to get better in each way. I am going to be grateful by appreciating the things and friends I have. I'm also going to stay grateful by continuing to support my idols in the work that they make for us and buying their things because they always put a smile on my face.
